Remnant: From the Ashes - Complete Edition delivers a third-person action RPG experience built around shooter combat and soulslike challenge on PS4. Players control a survivor in a post-apocalyptic setting where an otherworldly threat known as the Root has overrun Earth and linked realms. The Complete Edition bundles the base campaign with the Swamps of Corsus and Subject 2923 expansions, providing access to additional worlds, a roguelike mode, and a continuation of the story.
Gameplay
Combat centers on a mix of firearms and melee weapons. Each character carries a primary gun, a sidearm, and a melee option while managing stamina for dodges and attacks. Powerful mods attach to weapons and grant temporary abilities that turn the tide in fights against varied enemy types. Encounters emphasize learning patterns, positioning, and resource management rather than pure reaction speed.
Progression relies on a trait system that lets players invest points into permanent stat improvements after leveling. Starting archetypes such as Scrapper, Ex-Cultist, and Hunter provide initial gear and bonuses, yet the system remains flexible enough for custom builds across multiple playthroughs. Materials collected from defeated enemies and bosses fuel weapon and armor upgrades at checkpoints called World Stones.
Worlds generate dynamically from pools of dungeons, events, and enemy placements. This structure ensures that routes, boss encounters, and loot vary between sessions. Players explore hostile environments across linked realms while scavenging scrap and crafting components to strengthen their loadout.
Game Modes
Campaign mode follows the main narrative and its expansions. Players advance through linked worlds, confront world bosses, and uncover story elements tied to the Root invasion. Difficulty settings range from Normal through Hard, Nightmare, and Apocalypse, each increasing enemy health, damage, and density.
Adventure Mode allows rerolling of individual worlds without affecting campaign progress. This option supports targeted farming of specific bosses, dungeons, or events in realms such as Earth, Rhom, or Yaesha. Corsus becomes available through the included expansion.
Survival Mode, part of the Swamps of Corsus content, functions as a roguelike challenge. Players begin in the Labyrinth with minimal equipment and a limited supply of scrap, then face escalating waves of bosses across randomized realms. A timer advances difficulty over time, and rewards include account-bound items usable in other modes.
Hardcore Mode applies permadeath to new characters in either Campaign or Adventure sessions. Successful runs on this setting unlock exclusive rewards such as specific amulets and rings.
Worlds and Progression Systems
Four main realms connect through the story. Each features distinct environments, enemy factions, and boss encounters that shift with procedural generation. Players travel via World Stones and must adapt builds to handle the unique threats in every location.
Cooperative play supports up to three participants. Joining another session scales enemy health and numbers accordingly, while progress saves only on the host world. Solo play remains fully viable, though group coordination helps with tougher encounters and resource sharing.
Is It Worth Playing?
Player feedback on major platforms consistently rates the experience as Very Positive, with tens of thousands of reviews highlighting satisfying combat loops and strong replay value from procedural elements. The Complete Edition supplies substantial content through its bundled expansions, including new campaigns, Survival Mode, and additional gear options.
The title suits players who enjoy methodical combat, build experimentation, and repeated runs with meaningful variation. Those seeking a challenging co-op or solo action RPG with shooter mechanics will find consistent depth across its modes. Availability on PS4 remains stable years after release, with no ongoing seasonal content required to access the full package.
