Clouds veil the moon,
and winds steal the blossoms;
fate parts us from those we love,
and binds us to strangers.

Prologue
Hear ye, hear ye!
There once was a doctrine called mappō—the Latter Days of the Law, a kind of apocalyptic belief. It took hold in Japan some thousand years ago, in the Kamakura era.
It was said that once this Age arrived, no soul could be saved anymore. And so the people lived through an age of darkness and despair, ever searching for salvation.
Now then—the stage we present tonight is set in a far-eastern island nation, one that resembles that Japan of old, and yet is plainly not it. Its name: Yashima.
In this land, where the Maiden of Urd wields the magic of the spoken word, an unforeseen calamity was foretold—a falling star, fated to strike within the year.
The Maiden of Urd, guardian and pillar of the nation, was to set out on a journey to shatter this doom. Our tale begins the day before her departure.
And yet—the heroin of this tale is not the Maiden of Urd, keeper of the words of magic.
Here before you stands another: a nameless Shadow, who serves as her shield, and hones the sword in her stead. It is this Shadow who is the true hero of our story.
This is a tale of moon and cloud, of blossom and wind. To all of you gathered here, from corner to corner, edge to edge, we bow our knees seven-fold, and fold them seven-fold again, and humbly, humbly, we beg your company unto the very end.
What now begins is Cloudwalker.
A pilgrimage across every corner of Yashima, from shore to shore—let the journey begin!
