Survive how you want.
The world ended last week. The radio went quiet this morning. What happens next is entirely up to you.
ROTLAND is a true survival sandbox, inspired by Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead. There are no classes to pick and no story to follow, and you don't win by checking boxes. There's a whole planet that fell apart, and every system in it is real: hunger and thirst, wounds and infection, fuel and power, weather and seasons, and the dead, who never stop coming.
Barricade a farmhouse and plant crops behind barbed wire. Weld armor onto a school bus and drive it across the continent. Turn a boxcar into a home and live on the rails. Hide on a houseboat in the middle of a lake. Cut yourself open and install a blade in your arm. Play it slow and careful, or loud and on fire.
And play it at your own pace: turn-based, where the world waits while you think, like a classic roguelike, or in real time, where it doesn't. Switch with every new game.
A whole planet to survive on
An Earth-sized, procedurally generated world, about 40,000 km around, different every time: continents, oceans, islands, rivers and lakes, forests, farmland and highways
Villages, towns and sprawling cities, with 250+ kinds of buildings to search room by room and floor by floor, from rooftops to basements: gun stores, hospitals, prisons, military checkpoints, airports and rail yards
Day and night, weather and seasons that change how you play: darkness hides you and hides them, rain soaks you, winter starves you
Over 2,700 items, every one with a use, including 500+ pieces of clothing that actually protect you (or don't)
Make anywhere your fortress
Build from scratch: 420 things to construct, from log walls, barricades, barbed wire and spike pits to rain catchers, dug wells with hand pumps, generators and solar panels
Live on the move: armor up a school bus, tow a camper, drive a motorhome, or turn a train into a rolling base with beds, storage and a workshop
Take to the water: launch a boat, build a houseboat, and anchor somewhere the dead can't follow
Farm, hunt and fish: till fields, plant and harvest crops, track animals, butcher what you catch and cook it over a fire
Power your world: wire up generators, batteries and solar, run pumps, lights and fridges, and keep the lights on as long as the fuel lasts
Craft anything
1,400+ recipes and 27 skills that grow as you use them: a knife from a scrap of metal, a fire axe, a homemade shotgun, a pipe bomb, a full set of armor
Take everything apart: over 1,100 things salvage into their parts, so the whole world is your raw material
Learn by doing and by reading: practice makes you better, and books teach recipes you'd never work out alone
Drive, sail, ride the rails and fly
Over 100 vehicles: cars, pickups, motorcycles, bicycles, buses, campers, tractors with ploughs and tillers, forklifts and a killdozer
Boats and trains: freight trains on a real rail network, boxcars, yard cranes and river bridges
Helicopters and planes: take off from an airfield and see the world from above (landing is your problem)
Build and modify your own: bolt on armor, turrets, engines, beds and storage, part by part
Combat that hurts
Every creature has a body, and so do you. Limbs come off, heads burst, bodies split in two. Wounds bleed, get infected and need real treatment, from bandages and splints to surgery.
15 kinds of zombie, from shamblers and runners to brutes, screamers, bloated burst-ers and infected soldiers, plus wandering hordes that roll across the map
Melee, firearms and fire: katanas and fire axes, guns with real magazines and attachments, grenades, dynamite, molotovs and fire that spreads
Raiders, traders and survivors: people who shoot first, people who'll trade, and people you can recruit
Become something else
Over 200 cybernetic implants, and every one of them does something: blades that slide out of your forearm, knuckle claws, a shoulder rocket pod, night-vision eyes, tool arms, gills, armored skin and superhuman strength. But surgery isn't a button. You need the part, the tools, a clean room and a steady hand, and rejection, infection and nerve damage are all on the table.
Alone or with friends
Co-op for up to 8 players in a shared world that saves and loads
Optional PvP: the host decides whether you can turn on each other
Together it's real time: everyone moves at once, so watch each other's backs (turn-based is for playing solo)
Make it yours
Mod tools built into the game: draw your own buildings tile by tile, import sprite sheets, design new zombies pixel by pixel (down to what flies off when they're hit), and test it all in-game in one click
Deep modding: everything is plain JSON, patches change anything already in the game, and GDScript mods can hook into almost everything
A built-in wiki covering every item, recipe and system, and a right-click menu on almost everything
The dead don't sleep. Neither should you.
