Gateholt is a 1-4 player co-op horror game about entering cursed places
and erasing the traces a spirit has left behind. When every trace is gone,
the spirit loses its hold on the place and disappears.
Erase what it left behind
Scrub away dried bloodstains
Wipe out marks carved into the walls
Burn cursed objects
Release the souls it has caught
Seal the coffins it has opened
Each task needs a different tool. You decide what to bring before you go in.
Erasing makes it worse
Every trace you erase weakens the spirit's grip, and the weaker its grip,
the harder it looks for you. Each step down wakes another servant, and
lower still, the spirit itself turns frenzied.
They will not let you work
Your tool is made for erasing, not for fighting. The dominant spirit walks
the place looking for you, and when it finds you, you run or you hide.
Each servant that wakes interferes in its own way — flooding rooms with fog,
swapping places with the dominant spirit, closing in the moment you look away.
You can drive one off, but not for good.
Splitting up is faster
Up to four players go in together. Splitting up covers ground faster, but the
further you get from the others, the more dangerous it becomes. Your voice
only reaches teammates who are nearby. A fallen teammate leaves behind
their heart — carry it to the revival circle and they come back.
If you make it out
Spend your pay on gear and upgrades, and collect cosmetics for your character.
Return to the same place and you still will not know which spirit — or which
servants — are waiting for you.
The way back is still open
If you cannot finish, you can close the gate partway through and walk out.
No pay, but you walk out.
