Gods to Dust is a 3D horde-survival action RPG set in the Egyptian underworld. Players wake on the first shore of the Duat after their heart is stolen, forcing them to fight through the Hours of the night to reclaim it before the gods deny them rest. The core loop centers on surviving waves of the dead while shaping a build around an equipped weapon and one of five spell paths on the Night Wheel.
Gameplay
Combat runs on automatic attacks from both the chosen weapon and active spells. Movement, dashing, and timing an ultimate ability remain under direct player control. The Night Wheel organizes talents across Flame, Frost, Storms, Necromancy, or Ranger paths. Players earn talent points during runs and can spend them on the fly, then freely rework the wheel between attempts. Swearing an Oath unlocks deeper powers along a chosen path, and the full game plans crown abilities at the end of each route.
Equipment follows a Diablo-style progression with seven weapon types and six tiers ranging from Common to Gilded. Armour, capes, jewellery, and trinkets carry affixes that can include curses for greater power. Loot drops from elites, guardians, chests, events, and divine gifts. Between runs, players trade or gamble at the Western Mooring with rescued NPCs such as Honest Khay. Omens and elite affixes alter each night's threats, while 50 arena events offer detours that range from rescues to hunts or temporary god powers.
During a night the gods periodically pause the action to present a boon, pact, treasure, or Mystery Jar. Accepting heavier burdens can yield richer rewards, and winning events grants an extra draft choice later. The Scales of Judgment weigh each completed run.
Game Modes
The primary experience consists of roguelite runs through successive gates and the Hours of the night. Each gate ends with a guardian boss fight in a distinct arena. Four First Hour expeditions branch off onto separate maps with unique objectives, such as escorting a caravan or searching a buried archive. These expeditions alter what awaits back in town upon return.
Between nights the Western Mooring serves as a hub for town growth. Rescuing residents like Ani the Scribe, Miu the Keeper, and Neferet unlocks services, upgrades, and commissions. Players can recruit companions including the Grave Hound, Oathkeeper, or Floodcaller. Companions level up independently and humanoid ones can equip gear provided by the player. Deeds and offerings prepare the next journey while the town expands along resident-specific upgrade paths.
Progression and Builds
Leveling grants talent points and Tomes of Insight at gates. Equipment comparison and affix evaluation drive build decisions, with some pieces carrying curses that trade safety for strength. The demo reaches level 15 and includes equipment up to tier three, allowing full exploration of all five spell paths within those limits. The planned Early Access launch begins with two complete lands and expands through updates that add lands, expeditions, weapons, relics, enemy types, and guardian bosses. The full journey targets six lands, the complete Night Wheel, a Codex, and the story's conclusion along with endgame events.
Is It Worth Playing?
Gods to Dust suits players who enjoy automatic combat systems paired with deliberate buildcrafting and roguelite decision-making. The demo already delivers six gates, four expeditions, and nine distinct boss encounters, giving a clear sense of the gate-to-gate flow and town management loop. Early Access plans emphasize substantial content drops rather than small patches, which aligns with the solo-developed scope. Those drawn to Egyptian mythology themes, horde survival with meaningful loot progression, and companion recruitment will find the systems cohesive. The game remains in active development with the demo serving as the current playable entry point.
