NO PAROLE is an action survival game set in a sealed city overrun by the undead. Players take the role of a convict from Central City Prison who cannot die permanently. The title is free to play on PC and blends scavenging runs through urban locations with base management inside the prison walls.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on raids into 16 distinct areas of the city that unlock progressively over a 30-day period. These include a gas station, a multi-floor mall, a school controlled by scavengers, a hospital, a zoo, a pharma lab, and downtown districts. Each raid generates fresh layouts, though some encounters involve already overrun zones or active government operations. Players gather loot while managing noise levels, since gunfire draws large groups of infected.
Stealth options include silent melee kills with knives or crowbars, barricading doors, and crawling through dark spaces. Night raids offer better rewards but reduce visibility. Extraction requires reaching a safe point with collected items, though everything outside a protected pocket is lost on failure. Special infected types appear throughout, such as charging fatties, wall-grabbing long arms, ceiling-dropping spiders, and zombie dogs. Environmental hazards like collapsing floors, spreading fires, and exploding fuel tanks add further risk.
Inside the prison, players upgrade facilities, craft equipment, and recruit additional inmates. Each recruit carries a unique crime that grants both a benefit and a drawback, such as faster searching paired with occasional theft from storage. The player character can graft parts from special infected onto their body for new abilities and mask their scent to pass through hordes undetected.
Game Modes
Online co-op supports 2 to 16 players in public, friends-only, or invite-only sessions, with friendly fire enabled. Groups vote on whether to travel together or split up during raids. When the host remains at the prison, the team defends the facility side by side during later stages.
Solo play lets the player lead a crew of up to three AI-controlled inmates who learn from experience, retreat when injured, and draw threats away when needed. These companions can die permanently, which affects long-term progress. Killing a crewmate in front of witnesses results in exile to a separate run outside the prison.
A weekly fixed run presents the same city layout to all players, modified by two twists each time. Performance on these runs feeds into leaderboards where top replays can be viewed.
The Prison and Progression
The prison serves as the persistent hub. Players expand it by unlocking wings, improve defenses, and prepare for the government assault scheduled on day 30. The siege outcome depends on upgraded walls, recruited crew strength, and available weapons such as pistols distributed among inmates.
Story elements unfold through interactions with prison staff, including a warden who views convicts as individuals and a counselor referred to as the Godfather. A 30-day countdown drives urgency, after which surviving the siege leads into further events involving a burning city and attempts to smuggle evidence outward.
Is It Worth Playing?
NO PAROLE targets players who enjoy co-op survival experiences with permanent consequences for companions, base-building elements, and asymmetric multiplayer tension. The combination of permadeath for crew members, procedural raid variations, and weekly shared challenges creates a loop focused on careful planning and adaptation. Full controller support and data-only mod compatibility are included. Since the game remains unreleased with a planned 2027 launch and no player reviews available yet, its appeal rests on the described systems for those drawn to dark humor, grotesque cartoon visuals, and high-stakes scavenging in a zombie setting. Individuals who prefer solo play with AI support or small-group coordination may find the mechanics align with their interests once it becomes available.
