Players step into the shoes of a janitor at the old city hall, repairing the clock before a sudden trip to the past. They solve puzzles across different eras to return home, uncovering the building's evolution through hands-on exploration. The adventure draws from historical photos, photogrammetry, and documents to recreate 1930s and 1960s interiors in partnership with Kainuu Museum and the Finnish Museum Association.
This puzzle adventure reveals how the city hall functioned and changed over time, sharing key facts from its past. History enthusiasts and puzzle fans discover interactive lessons on local heritage while navigating eras. Part of the Stories to Games project, funded by the European Social Fund, it blends education with engaging PC gameplay.
In Raatihuone, the old city hall, the player takes on the role of a janitor who is tasked with fixing the city hall clock. After fixing the clock the player is transported to the past and has to solve puzzles in order to find the way back home.
The game aims to teach and tell the history of Kajaani city hall through interactive gameplay. While exploring the site throughout the eras, the player can learn many interesting tidbits about the history and the different stages of the city hall. Players will learn how the city hall operated and how it used to look throughout its’ history.
The game environment was modeled in co-operation with the Kainuu Museum and Finnish museum association and utilized old pictures, photogrammetry and documents to accurately match the 30’s and 60’s.
The development of Raatihuone is part of Stories to games project which is coordinated by the Finnish Museum Association and funded by European Social Fund.
