Space Bullet is a pixel-art bullet-hell shooter available on PC in Early Access. Players control a ship with a tiny white hitbox dot at its center while dodging dense barrages of enemy fire, either alone or alongside up to seven others in shared Steam lobbies.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on precise movement and resource management. Grazing bullets charges a skill meter, and clearing waves of projectiles converts them into light particles that flow toward the ship. Bosses start with armor that deflects standard shots, so players must target glowing weak points to deplete a Break Gauge. Once the gauge empties, the boss enters a vulnerable state where damage output doubles and the barrage pauses briefly. At half health, bosses enrage and alter their patterns entirely.
Each of the five stages features a distinct boss and unique bullet patterns. Stage 5 pits players against a massive robot that occupies the full screen. On HARD difficulty and higher, stages add environmental hazards such as crushing presses, sweeping beams, burning floors, ice hazards, and lightning strikes. Five classes provide variety: Assault, Medic, Guardian, Scout, and Pirate. Each comes with a signature weapon and skill. Reviving downed teammates requires holding an action button near them.
After every boss victory, the team enters a rest area equipped with a healing station and shop. Players prepare there before entering the warp gate to proceed. Ship customization occurs in a dedicated 32 by 32 pixel drawing tool that supports up to eight animation frames and custom RGB colors. Designs can be shared via codes, and the white hitbox dot always renders on top to maintain fairness.
Game Modes
Three primary modes structure play sessions. Stage mode follows the linear five-stage campaign plus an extra stage. Infinity mode emphasizes endurance against endless waves. Boss Rush mode focuses exclusively on repeated boss encounters. Five difficulty settings scale challenge from CASUAL through NORMAL, HARD, NIGHTMARE, and LUNATIC. Higher settings intensify both bullet density and terrain threats.
Cooperative play supports up to eight participants through Steam lobbies, allowing groups to tackle identical barrages together. Solo runs remain fully supported with the same mechanics and progression.
Progression and Customization
Classes influence both offense and support roles, encouraging team composition choices during co-op sessions. The drawing system lets players create animated ships with personal color schemes, adding visual identity without affecting hitbox fairness. Ten Steam achievements track progress, with additional ones planned for full release. Controller support includes Xbox gamepads, and the game offers localization in Japanese, English, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.
Is It Worth Playing?
Space Bullet suits players who enjoy tight bullet-hell patterns and cooperative survival against escalating threats. The Early Access build currently includes all five stages plus an extra stage, the three modes, five difficulty levels, all five classes, and the ship drawing feature. Groups seeking shared bullet-dodging sessions or solo players wanting precise, graze-focused gameplay will find the core systems intact and functional. The rest areas between bosses provide natural pacing breaks, while class skills and environmental hazards on higher difficulties add layers of coordination and adaptation. Those drawn to pixel-art presentation and customizable ships have clear reasons to try the current version.
