Soul Monsters Card Game - Three Machine Dragons expands the indie card battle experience on PC with a continuation of its story-driven roguelike deckbuilder format. Players build decks around monster summoning and poker-inspired combat to progress through new chapters set after the base game's Wonderland campaign.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on constructing poker hands each turn from trump cards to multiply damage output, ranging from basic pairs up to royal flushes. A roulette mechanic determines suit-based effects like lifesteal or poison on attacks, with options to spend mana for control over the result. Mana also fuels monster summons into field slots to overcome obstacles and bosses.
This DLC introduces Overload, which boosts hand multipliers by up to 1.5 times at the expense of monster health, sending burned-out units to the grave. The Grave system allows banking up to eight fallen monsters and reviving one per turn at reduced stats. These rules apply across any deck but offer advantages to machine and undead cards through lower Overload costs and attack bonuses from grave occupants.
Forty-two new cards join the pool, focusing on machine kingdom and machine-fused undead factions. The three machine dragons appear as unique-rarity cards with four animated states each. Card text supports four languages, and eight new battlefield skins accompany chapter-specific backdrops and dialogue sequences.
Game Modes
Progression follows a linear campaign structure divided into chapters and individual stages. The expansion adds eight chapters totaling 128 stages, beginning with encounters on a steel-and-bone shore and advancing through scattered allies, rampages, blighted lands, sunken seas, riven earth, torn skies, and a final confrontation with the irregular Schrodinger.
Each chapter integrates story sequences and boss fights against machine dragons named Naiad, Gaia, and Aether, plus supporting characters such as Johanna, Kain, Rockefeller, and Kael. Clearing specific chapters unlocks cosmetic swaps for in-battle portraits and names without altering the card pool.
Story and Setting
The narrative shifts from Wonderland to a realm of four dragon gods where steel wreckage mixes with bone. Dead bodies move with machinery attached, and the summoner Schrodinger seeks to provoke the gods rather than destroy them. Breaking each machine dragon awakens a god in turn, driving the conflict across machine and undead forces.
Eight dedicated battlefield skins and per-chapter dialogue in multiple languages support the progression. The content requires completion of the base game's first six chapters to access.
Is It Worth Playing?
The expansion targets players already familiar with the base game's poker-hand combat and deckbuilding systems who want additional chapters and mechanics. Overload and Grave introduce new deckbuilding splits that reward health management and graveyard synergies, particularly for machine and undead themes.
With the base game released in 2026 and limited user feedback available so far, reception remains early. Those who enjoy single-player story campaigns with tactical card play and incremental rule additions may find value in the extended content and new factions. Availability ties directly to base game ownership and prior campaign progress.
