Is there still time? Or is it already too late?
If there is a memory destined to be erased, what would you choose to remember?
He captured their seasons togetherâspring, summer, autumn, and winterâon sheets of paper. The final blank space left on the canvas was the âloveâ that never had the chance to be spoken.
Lacuna sincerely invites you to fill in the regret that fate has unfairly dealt.
About This Game
A love story about regret.
Lacuna is adapted from a true story. It is not long, but it is enough to bring you to tears.
The protagonist, a 28-year-old illustrator, upon being diagnosed with a brain tumor, begins frantically creating a sketchbookâdrawing his lover, UU. But as his condition worsens, she gradually fades from clear and vivid to nothing more than a faceless silhouette.
Through a series of interactive narrative vignettes, you will experience everythingâfrom the flutter of first meeting as roommates, to the sweetness of falling in love, to the desperate lie of a forced breakup, and finally to the despair of being unable to recall her face. When memory becomes fragile, love becomes instinct.
Lacuna is a struggle against âgoodbyeâ: he loves her through the forgetting, mocking deathâs futility in the process.
Through a love destined to fade into oblivion and parting, we hope that after reaching the end, you will feel the immediate urge to contact the most important person in your life.
Core Features
The game employs a unique reverse-chronology + memory-recall structure. The story begins on the lawn of a care home, where the protagonist faces the despair of no longer being able to draw his loverâs face. As you turn the pages of his sketchbook with him, you travel back to the summer of 2022âfrom the flutter of sharing an apartment, to the sweetness of love, to the lie of a forced separationâstep by step, walking toward an inevitable end.
Interactive Narrative
There are no complex controlsâonly a series of carefully designed micro-interactions to immerse you in this relationship.
â˘Â In the rental apartment, establish the âboundariesâ of cohabitation with UU.
â˘Â In the kitchen, the silhouette of labor.
â˘Â A tender confession, carefully prepared.
â˘Â Outdoors, doing the things you each love, together.
â˘Â In your room, dreaming about the future together.
â˘Â In the honeymoon suite, completing the most sincere âproposal.â
â˘Â After the diagnosis, struggling again and again, before finally letting go.
Every action is a heartbreak.
Hand-Drawn Art & Emotional Soundtrack
The entire game is rendered in a hand-drawn style, with delicate brushstrokes capturing every expression of the characters and every scenic detail. Paired with an original, hauntingly mournful soundtrack, the game creates a world that is at once warm and profoundly lonelyâallowing the emotional tension to flow through every frame and every note.
A Message From the Developers
Lacuna tells a story of âtoo late,â but what we want to leave players with is the feeling that âitâs not too late yet.â
We hope that after completing the game, you will not only be moved, but feel an immediate need to send a message to someone important. Because some words, if not spoken now, may truly never have the chance to be spoken.
