Spirit Mask is a top-down bullet heaven roguelite that blends action, indie, RPG, casual, and adventure elements on PC. Players control an exiled sovereign who rebuilds power amid endless enemy hordes in a spirit-filled clearing under moonlight.
Gameplay
Core movement relies on WASD for positioning and Space for dashing. Skills activate automatically toward the nearest threats, leaving players to focus on survival positioning and dash timing. The Ultimate ability on R builds through damage dealt, with activation timing left to player choice. Mid-run level-ups grant access to 27 skills and 18 Ultimates, including orbiting crystals, shadow chains, ghost blades, spears of light, thorn fields, and magnetic pulses. These expand through 196 skill evolutions that alter core functions rather than simple stat boosts.
Ten elements each provide two distinct effects when infused into skills. Fire burns and explodes, Water slows and heals, Lightning chains and paralyzes, Ice freezes and leaves enemies brittle, Darkness curses and drains life, while Corrupted spreads chaos and infection. Infusion changes how a skill behaves entirely. Five bosses each feature two phases, shifting to a furious state once health drops and invalidating prior strategies. Thirteen run events interrupt the flow, such as the Reaper hunting the player, the Collapse shrinking safe zones, Electric Storms sweeping the map, and portals that require closure.
Game Modes
Three handcrafted stages form the main campaign structure. Survival Mode scales the horde indefinitely, testing endurance without a time limit. Full online co-op supports two players sharing the same run, bosses, and escalation, with enemy caps adjusted accordingly. Progression carries across sessions through Evolution Spirits earned from missions, spent at character selection for permanent stat increases. Coins persist between runs, and two characters are available: Servo, the exiled sovereign, and the Wolf, who emphasizes speed and impact at the cost of durability.
Progression and Customization
Character selection allows spending Evolution Spirits to raise base stats permanently. Unlocks expand options over time, encouraging repeated runs to build strength. The system rewards consistent play without relying on temporary power spikes alone. Hand-drawn pixel art supports the visual style across all content, with support for 14 languages built into the experience.
Is It Worth Playing?
Spirit Mask suits players who enjoy roguelite loops centered on positioning, auto-attack management, and deep build experimentation through skill choices and evolutions. The co-op option adds shared runs for pairs, while Survival Mode provides endless scaling for solo endurance tests. Permanent progression via Evolution Spirits gives long-term goals beyond individual runs. Those drawn to top-down horde survival with elemental infusions and multi-phase bosses will find the systems align closely with the described mechanics. The game remains available on PC with the full feature set outlined in its design.
