On Paper is an indie casual adventure game built around a single-player puzzle experience on PC. Players take on the role of an FCBI agent sifting through mountains of shredded documents in a satirical office setting filled with feline characters and questionable business practices.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on searching layered piles of paper strips scattered across shelves, boxes, and storage areas in a cel-shaded room. Color-coded margins and visual clues guide identification of matching pieces amid the chaos. Players gather strips and deliver them to the moustached assistant Fedo Chan, who organizes finds into original documents and signals when assembly can begin.
At the investigation table, strips are arranged, rotated, and snapped into complete pages. Completed evidence yields upgrade points that unlock tools for highlighting matches, vacuuming related scraps, and simplifying precise placement. The process mixes methodical searching with hands-on reconstruction, revealing both incriminating material and harmless curiosities such as memes or children's drawings along the way.
Game Modes
On Paper features a single continuous story campaign. There are no separate modes or multiplayer options. The experience follows one narrative thread as a confident businessman grows increasingly nervous under scrutiny, with progression tied directly to advancing through larger paper piles and completing document reconstructions.
Story and Setting
The game unfolds in an anime-inspired storage room packed with suspiciously enthusiastic document disposal. Satirical elements poke fun at office bureaucracy and feline office life, blending straightforward investigation with lighthearted surprises hidden in envelopes and paperwork. Progression unlocks larger messes to tackle while the central story builds tension through assembled evidence.
Is It Worth Playing?
Players who enjoy deliberate puzzle-solving and collection mechanics in a compact single-player package will find a focused experience here. The gameplay emphasizes careful observation and incremental upgrades that ease larger tasks, supported by a consistent story campaign. Availability is limited to PC, with no additional content or seasonal updates confirmed beyond the core campaign. Those seeking quick sessions or varied gameplay loops may prefer titles with more mechanical variety, while fans of methodical reconstruction and light satire should appreciate the steady pace and thematic consistency.
